Shilla Bakery in Ellicott City offers a cozy blend of bakery and café vibes, making it a go-to spot for anyone craving light sweets alongside a relaxed atmosphere. This isn’t just your typical bakery counter—it’s a place where you can enjoy unique Korean-inspired treats like bingsoo, the delicate shaved ice dessert available in flavors such as mango and green tea, as well as a variety of creatively crafted cakes that often catch the eye with playful designs.

The space feels warm and inviting without feeling overstimulating. Customers mention easy listening music that quietly supports the atmosphere, enhancing the feeling of calm that many locals come here for, whether they’re grabbing a coffee or meeting friends for a casual catch-up. While the coffee here hits the standard expected of a neighborhood café—smooth and satisfying—it’s really the combination of the bakery items and specialty drinks like bubble tea that keeps people coming back, especially on warmer days when the fruity, icy bingsoo is especially refreshing.

If you’re stopping in around mid-morning or early afternoon, it’s easy to see why Shilla Bakery works well for folks looking for a laid-back break or a place to linger with a book. The friendly, if somewhat quietly professional, staff make taking a quick birthday cake order or selecting pastries a smooth experience. For celebrations, their cakes not only taste good but also show care in presentation, adding a thoughtful touch to special moments.

Locals tend to appreciate Shilla Bakery for its mix of classic bakery treats—fluffy, sugary donut twists are a popular grab—and the chance to try something different than the typical café fare. The selection of hot drinks is broad, accommodating from espresso purists to those wanting seasonal flavored lattes. Plus, with bubble tea options that get singled out for being particularly flavorful, it’s a spot that appeals across generations.

Best for: Casual visits for dessert enthusiasts, light celebratory gatherings, and anyone interested in sampling Korean-influenced sweet treats alongside their coffee or tea.

Ideal visitors: Locals looking for a calm spot to relax, families ordering cakes for birthdays, and young adults drawn to trendy yet approachable flavors.

Best time to visit: Mid-mornings to afternoons during weekdays or weekends when the café atmosphere is calm and the baked goods are freshly stocked.

Atmosphere: Quietly cheerful and casual with a subtle musical backdrop, creating a cozy, comfortable environment distinct from busier chains or standard coffee shops.

We tried their cakes and bingsoo. All were very good. Their coffee was good, but not the best. Their staff were very nice. They played easy listening music that made us feel relaxed. - We visited this place again a few more times and enjoyed their mango bingsoo. It was delicious.

Very cute! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. They have dishes a normal bakery usually doesn't. They have handmade ice cream, which they build on with coffee to make a special treat -- just for you! Yes, YOU! They make cute cakes that look like cartoon animals. The coffee drinks are so smooth! The staff wasn't chatty with me but your experience may very be different. I visited late, closer to closing time. They keep the place clean and respectful. In return do be respectful and don't bring outside food/drinks when you visit. There's plenty of free parking in the shared parking lot.

Called the day of for a birthday cake. The staff, over the phone, and in person during pickup were very kind. The cake was beautiful and delicious! They also provided a few candles that we did end up using. The tips of the candles were wrapped in foil and we though that was so clever. I will definitely be ordering again.

Super cute bakery with yummy pastries and cookies. There is a wide selection of coffee, tea, and boba. There also seems to be some warm breakfast sandwiches. I ended up buying 2 sugar donut twists and an earl grey tea. The donut twists were amazing! Wonderfully fluffy and covered in coarse sugar. The earl grey was decent but I like that a 16 oz was their medium. Definitely check out this cafe. It was clean and cute with good food.

Such a cute little spot!! I enjoy coming here both by myself and with my friend. The food and drinks are nice, but if you get the hot dog pizza, please warm it up at home, it's not good cold. Keep in mind though that you need to make a $5 minimum purchase if you wanna use a card!

The coffee was authentic. You can tell that they used very good beans for their roast and the breakfast sandwich was amazing. You can tell it was also real eggs, which sounds strange to say, but many places don’t use actual eggs when they’re making their sandwiches I have officially found my favorite spots for a quick breakfast

This is a very cozy bakery and cafe located in Koreatown (Rt.40 West) in Ellicott City. It could be easy to miss so look for the Victoria Plaza sign. I went specifically for one of their cream cakes. The bakery also carries a wide selection both sweet vs savory items not seen in typical local bakeries. The displays are well laid out. You grab a basket and select items that are neatly wrapped. Cream filled pastries are smooth in texture and I did not find them overly sweet. There were flavors such as strawberry, mocha, Nutella or white cream to name a few. My favorite is their red bean filled doughnut. I wished I lived closer but maybe it’s a good idea I didn’t. The birthday cake I went for was a Chocolate Cream…the cake had 3 layers of a light chiffon with buttercream frosting and did not taste overly sweet. They were able to place a Happy Birthday greeting on the spot and packed it in a beautiful box to easily carry home.
